How an engagement works
The same four steps whether it is one overnight post or a year-long contract.
-
Site walk
We meet you at the property, look at access points, lighting, hours, and what has gone wrong before. No charge.
-
Written post orders
A plain-language document that says where the officer stands, what they watch for, who they call, and what they log. You approve it.
-
Officers assigned
Licensed officers who live nearby are briefed on your post orders and introduced to your staff before the first shift.
-
Supervised and reported
A supervisor visits posts. You get a report after every shift and a call as soon as we know about anything that needs your attention.
Security with aloha is not soft.
It is a steady, respectful presence from people who know the place and the people in it.
RMT Enterprises - Security Division has been a family business in Honokaʻa since 1999. We are not a mainland chain running a playbook from a call center. The person who answers dispatch at two in the morning knows which road floods in Hāmākua and which Kona hotel has a gate code that changed last week.
That knowledge is most of what good security is. The rest is discipline: officers who show up in uniform and on time, follow written post orders, de-escalate before they escalate, and write reports you can hand to your insurer or the police without editing.
We call that mālama: to care for and protect. It applies to the property we are posted at, the guests and workers who pass through it, and the community that is also our home.
- Officers who know the district they serve
- De-escalation first, documentation always
- A supervisor who actually visits the post
- One phone number, answered by a person, every hour of the year
27 years on one island, since November 1999.
Experience in this business is not a slogan. It is knowing which gate sticks, which road floods, and which festival exit backs up, before the shift starts.
- Through every season the island has
- Hurricane watches, lava flows, flooded roads, and festival weekends. We have run posts and patrols through all of them, and we plan coverage around the island's weather and roads, not a mainland template.
- Most kinds of property, more than once
- Resorts, ranches, job sites, shopping centers, condominiums, and county facilities. After this many years of post orders we have usually seen your kind of property before, and we know what tends to go wrong at two in the morning.
- The same family, the same island
- RMT is owned and run by the family that started it in Honokaʻa. The owner is Native Hawaiian and a Vietnam veteran, and dispatch is answered by a person who knows the properties, not a call center on the mainland.
- A record you can check
- Every shift has a written report, and you hear from us as soon as we know about anything that needs your attention. Procurement staff and property managers can ask for references and for our license and insurance documents before anything starts.
Where we work
Every district on Hawaiʻi Island, from a base in Honokaʻa on the Hāmākua Coast.
Questions buyers ask
Are your officers armed?
No. Every RMT officer is unarmed. For nearly all properties and events on Hawaiʻi Island, a trained, visible, unarmed officer who knows how to talk to people prevents more problems than a weapon would, and it keeps liability low for you.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. RMT Security is a licensed guard agency under Hawaiʻi law (HRS Chapter 463), and every officer holds a state guard card. Our license and certificate of insurance are available on request before any work starts.
Do you cover Kona and Hilo, or just Hāmākua?
All of Hawaiʻi Island. We are based in Honokaʻa and staff standing posts and patrol routes in every district, from Kohala to Kaʻū.
Can you staff a one-day event?
Yes. Weddings, festivals, concerts, and sporting events are a large part of our work. Give us the date, venue, expected attendance, and whether alcohol is served, and we will send a staffing plan and quote.
How does a quote work?
Call or send the form, and we will walk the site with you, write post orders that describe exactly what the officer does, and send a written quote. There is no charge for the site walk or the quote.
Do you work with county, state, and institutional buyers?
Yes. Our government and institutional security page lists our NAICS code and the documents procurement staff usually need, including a W-9, certificate of insurance, and capabilities statement.
