What the work is like

Our officers are unarmed. The job is to be present, pay attention, and write down what happened. That might mean standing a post at a resort, watching a construction site overnight, driving a mobile patrol route, or working an event.

We hire in every district, and living near the post matters. Officers who know the area and the people in it do better work and spend less time on the road.

Who does well here

People who show up on time, stay alert, and keep calm when something unexpected happens. You do not need a security background. You do need to be dependable and willing to write a clear, honest report.

If you do not yet have a Hawaiʻi guard card, ask us how to get one. It involves state-approved training and an application to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and we will walk you through it.

Pay, schedules, and uniforms

Pay and hours depend on the post, so we will tell you the rate for the post when you apply. Schedules vary too. Some posts are days, some are overnight, and some are single events.

Ask us about uniforms and what you will need to bring when we talk. We would rather answer these questions up front than leave you guessing.

• Age 18 or older
• A Hawaiʻi guard card, or willingness to obtain one (we will explain the process)
• A clean background check
• Reliable transportation
• Able to write a clear report
• Able to stand a full shift and stay alert overnight
